Saint John of God Hospitaller Services
Refurbishment of 155-157 Copenhagen St Islington London N1 With EHCGP Funding
The Ollalo Project
Olallo House, is a 32 bed accommodation and support service managed by Saint John of God Hospitaller Services (SJOG). The service predominately serves migrants who have a verified history of rough sleeping in the capitol. In addition to this we also support persons with TB and those awaiting hospital discharge who have no fixed abode. We provide: hot meals; job search; one to one keyworker support and support to those who wish to return to their last settled base/their home country.
Since September 2008 Olallo House has supported over 1228 homeless migrants off the streets
155-157 Copehhagen Street The house is owned by the catholic diocese on lease to SJOG for a seven to ten year period. It used to house the local church clergy. It was empty for approximately 10 years.
Who is going to be housed?
Copenhagen St will be classed as ‘move on’ accommodation for people residing at Olallo House. Aimed at low support working residents who just need that little bit extra time and support to source a more permanent/appropriate housing option. Affordable and secure housing in London for those on low wages is becoming ever more difficult to find.
St John of God received funding from the GLA via the Empty Homes Community Grants Programme to bring Copenhagen Street back into use. The total costs of works was £145k. £71k came from EHCGP with the remainder being met from St John of God’s own resources and a charitable grant.
