There is nothing new about the idea of Self Help Housing.  In the sixties, seventies and eighties Self Help Housing was a common occurrence, with a variety of community organisations taking on empty properties and returning them to use with great success.

The idea has continued quietly throughout the recent property boom, with projects across the county continuing the vital work of returning spaces and homes to the community.

At present, these groups and organisations are only beginning to form a network of likeminded individuals and are still facing the challenge of bringing public attention to the practical and community benefits of Self Help.

With the current economic and property price climate, Self Help Housing has returned as a significant opportunity to bring about real change in communities and in the lives of individuals.
